The Feast of the Presentation of our Lord

Last week, EYFS learned about the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.  The feast is celebrated 40 days after Christmas.  The children loved acting out the story for their friends and teachers.

Kung Hei Fat Choi

EYFS celebrated by learning some of the language, tasting traditional cuisine and performing a Dragon Dance (which was excellent).  All children were given a fortune cookie to take home.  Happy Chinese New Year!

EMILE

Recently, our Year 4 children took part in a times tables competition.

Out of over 900 schools we are one of only 30 schools to reach the final!

The children answered over 42,000 times table questions correctly in two days!

The final will take place on Wednesday, 29th January and Thursday, 30th January 2025.

Our Year 4 children have been working really hard, wouldn’t it be amazing if we won the competition!

STRANGER DANGER - GMP

Great Manchester Police came into school to discuss "Stranger Danger" with our children.  GMP have asked us to share "Bee in the Loop" with all our parents, by scanning the QR code it will enable you receive free email alerts from your local officers about any issues in your area. (See below)

JANUARY 2025

MUFC The Cliff

Unstoppable!  Following on from last year's success where the team earned the opportunity to play at a Premier League Stadium.   The Our Lady of Grace Girl's Football Team returned to Manchester United's training facility in Salford to compete again in their annual tournament. The girl's defended their title, finishing as Champions and winning every match! What a day. What an experience. The girls were a credit to the school and their families. We are all very proud.

Gaelic football

Gaelic football coaching returned to Our Lady of Grace this month. The visiting coaches were so impressed with the children's enthusiasm, positive attitude and athleticism that they invited many of the pupils to attend trials at a local club!

It is important to celebrate following success. With this in mind the children were invited to wear their own clothes and take part in a celebration day. This was to say thank you for the key part they all played in our recent Catholic Schools Inspection. A variety of activities were planned including the  opportunity to watch the film ‘Wild Robot’ with their friends (and a small bag of treats!). The film has strong positive messages which complimented beautifully the children's recent work on British Values. The staff enjoyed a Slattery's lunch!

DECEMBER 2024

The finale to the calendar year at Our Lady of Grace is of course our famous Carol Service 'Carols by Candlelight.' This year was particularly special as (for the first time) it involved our wonderful Y2 children. It truly was the perfect way to remind us all of the true meaning of Christmas. See a couple of photos below and a message from Jackie McNally (who is an ex Headteacher and now works for Salford Diocese).

One of the most enjoyable times of the year is when Year 6 invite their grandparents and relatives to watch the concert performance. It was a great turn out with many mince pies eaten and tea drunk. The children performed a fantastic mix of carols and classics to entertain those who came.

Our Lady of Grace took Years 1-6 to watch a wonderful pantomime at Middleton Arena. We watched Sleeping Beauty which was enjoyed by all! It was great to see the whole school having fun in one place on this fantastic trip.

We are really proud of all the Pupil Teams we have here at school. The School Council has been working tirelessly to organise their annual raffle. They have sourced some fantastic prizes. Please support them if you can. It is all for a great cause!

Christmas Party in E Y F S . We had so much fun!

A lovely start to Advent as parents, adults, staff and pupils came together in the hall to watch the Year 6 Advent Assembly.

NOVEMBER 2024

Thank you to all who supported our Parish Christmas Fair this weekend! It was lovely to see so many pupils, parents. grandparents and staff.

We have a new visitors book and the first two comments are really pleasing as we have been working hard to make sure that everyone who visits our school feels welcome! Thanks Mike (Photographer) & Jackie (Diocesan Consultant)

Card making morning with our families. Thank you Tesco for donating mince pies to get us in the festive spirit. Please check our class page for lots more photos.

Our Annual trip to the Post Office to post our letters to Santa . Please visit our class page to see many more pictures from the day. Thank you to all the parents who supported us on our trip.

Christmas card making club. The children spoke and we listened. A number of children (via the school council) had requested that we have more craft activities here at school in special lunch time creative clubs. Thank you to all the staff giving up their time to make that dream come true!

Over the past few weeks, our Laudato Si Team have been preparing a whole school assembly to share information about National Tree week 2024. We have also successfully applied to the Woodland trust to donate over 120 trees to our school which the Laudato Si Team will be planting in our school grounds.

Check out these odd sock combinations in support of Anti-Bullying Week. Well done for all of our children (and staff) for being true witnesses of their faith and getting fully involved!

Kindness and Anti-Bullying Week launch assembly. This year's theme is Choose Respect. There will be a range of activities happening across school. We are very proud of our culture of no bullying and kindness.

Remembrance Day 11:00am Whole School 1 minute silence. As always the children were reverent and prayerful as we observed this great tradition. We could hear the faint sound of the guns being fired at the Town Hall we were so quiet!

Remembrance Day Assembly 08.11.24. Parents, Grandparents & Governors joined the Key Stage 2 children (led by Y5) in marking this special day with an assembly. The assembly used readings, prayers and drama to powerfully highlight the sacrifice made by others so that we can enjoy peace today.

Year 6 Readers for All Saints Mass. Father Phillip and Year 6 delivered a wonderful mass where we remembered all saints (known and unknown!). It was lovely to see so many parents, parishioners and Governors join with Y1-Y6 at church. The singing and mass responses from all children made us feel proud!

October

Parent's Evenings at Our Lady of Grace are always well attended. They are a great opportunity for school leaders to gather feedback from parents on a range of topics. During our most recent Parent's Evening, we asked parents about Religious Education. The results are below.

CAFOD Harvest Festival was yet again, another massive success! Thank you for all your wonderful donations.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Each class spends time outside with Mary's statue praying the rosary together. This helps us to remember the four different mysteries: Luminous, Joyful, Glorious and Sorrowful. The children in our school always demonstrate reverence and respect.

Year 6 have a wonderful time meeting their Prayer Partners, they wrote lovely letters introducing themselves. They will spend this year guiding the Year 3 through their spiritual journey.

CARITAS: Mini Vinnies is part of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He lived around 500 years ago and dedicated his whole life to serving the poor and needy. Our Mini Vinnie team lead the school in helping in various ways, such as: food, clothes, furniture, advice, cards, a listening ear, trips, etc. We meet and pray together to put concern into action.

A New School Year - Just look at everything we have to look forward to! Even more still to be added!
