Reading is an important part of your child’s learning, and we encourage it every day both at school and at home.
Children are expected to read at home every day for at least 15 minutes. Regular reading helps build phonics skills, fluency, understanding, and most importantly, a love of books.
We ask parents to:
Listen to their child read as often as possible
Talk together about what they have read
Please ensure your child brings their reading book and reading record to school each day so staff can check progress, add comments, and make sure regular reading is taking place at home.
Books are changed every Monday and Thursday.
By working together, we can help every child develop strong reading habits and enjoy exploring the wonderful world of stories and information.
New spellings are given out every Monday and will support the phonics learning for the week, ready for a short spelling test on Friday.
Spellings link closely to class work and help children review and strengthen what they’ve been taught.
To support learning at home, children can also use Spelling Shed to practise their weekly spellings in a fun and interactive way.
Your child’s login details can be found in their reading record.
Please support your child by helping them plan their time and encouraging regular spelling practise throughout the week.
PE takes place every Monday for Year 1 and every Thursday for Year 2.
