This term our topics are 'Knights and Princesses' and 'Under the Sea'. In Religious Education we are learning about Pentecost, Reconciliation and Neighbours.
In Collective Worship we shared our thoughts about Holy Days and Holidays and what we would like to hold on to from our Pentecost topic.We reflected on when we can pray to the Holy Spirit and thought about how we can take time to make others happy.
Knight and Princess Party
On Tuesday 23rd May, we had a wonderful 'Knight and Princess' party day as we had come to the end of our topic for this half term. The children dressed up and we made crowns, shields, Princess hats, wands and swords. In the afternoon we had a lovely picnic under our sails on the grass. We then played in the sun. We ended our day with some Knight and Princess stories. We all had a fun day!
This term our topic themes are 'Superheroes' and 'Growth'. We will be planning lots of exciting and fun lesson for the children. Please see your recent newsletter for the curriculum overview for this term.
In Religious Education our topics are 'Special People', 'Meals' and 'Change'. We will be learning about the special people in our lives, our local church community, the Eucharist and preparing for Lent and Easter.
Easter Bonnet Parade
In Collective Worship we shared our thoughts about who are special to us in our lives and we reflected and prayed for them together as a class. We thought about how we can show appreciation of the special people in school, home and in the parish family.We placed heart gems around the cross with our special thoughts to Jesus.
Religious Education - Special People
In class we have thinking about how the parish family spends time together after Mass.We have had lots of fun decorating delicious biscuits together. We then spent time talking together as a class reflecting on how we can spread love in our home,school and parish. We enjoyed the biscuits and juice whilst sitting down talking to our friends about how we can serve and love Jesus.
On Wednesday an amazing author came in to school to talk to us about Road Safety and share her book - 'Super Bob'. We talked about how to be safe on the roads and that Road Safety is for EVERYONE! Afterwards Jude came to our class to talk to us about the other books she has written. She shared with us lots of stories and we asked lots of interesting questions.
Superhero Masquerade Parade!
For Homework we created Superhero masks and on Wednesday we had a Superhero Masquerade Parade. We got to parade our masks around the school and show off our best superhero moves!
We did lots of writing too! Thinking of amazing WOW words to describe our masks. There are lots of fantastic superheroes in Year 1OS.
When we arrived back to school after Christmas we celebrated the Epiphany, by creating a beautiful display with the three kings following the star. We also thought about the gifts we would bring to Jesus this year and created a moving picture of the three kings following the bright star.

'Bears in the wood', 'Space' and 'Christmas'.

In Year 1 we had lots of fun preparing for Christmas.
In Literacy we wrote a letter to Father Christmas. We then walked to the Post Office in Prestwich to post our letters!
Our Advent Promises
For Homework we created a Christmas decoration with how we are going to prepare for the birth of Jesus written on it. We all shared our Advent promises during our collective worship. Thinking of ways how we can prepare for Christmas and the birth of Jesus. Our decorations were then placed on our class Christmas tree to reminds us each day of our promise to God.
We made Christingles in our Religious Education lesson. We learnt that the candle shows Jesus is the light of the world and that the orange represents God's world. We then presented our Christingles to Year 3D, telling them all about the meanings of a Christingle and how we made them.
We enjoyed creating Christmas hats to wear for our delicious Christmas dinner! The ice-cream was the best!
Religious Education - Belonging
We visited Church this half term to learn more about the sacrament of Baptism and how we belong to the Catholic family. Father Allen told us all about the special sacrament of Baptism and we learnt what the Baptismal font is used for.
Casting Magical Spells - Friday 11th November 2016
This week we have had fun reading Room On The Broom by Julia Donaldson. We have wrote magical rhyming spells and wonderful instructions to make an enchanted potion. We also created magical wands! We had lots of fun casting spells on Miss O'Shea!
On Friday we had a Gruffalo party day! We read the story by Julia Donaldson, we made Gruffalo masks, danced like Gruffalos in the hall to Gruffalo music, ate a Gruffalo picnic which included; scrambled snake sweets, fox cheese sandwiches, orange eye popcorn, and gruffalo cakes. Finally we watched the Gruffalo film.
We had a fantastic Gruffalo day!

On Thursday the children brought into school their favourite teddy bear. In the morning the children wrote a description of their teddy bears. In the afternoon we went outside and shared a delicious picnic in the sun, we also played lots of fun games. We had a fabulous day!
Spellings will be given out on a Monday.
Homework will be given on a Friday to be returned the following Wednesday.
We aim to swap reading books everyday, whenever your child has read their book, please sign their reading record and bring it in to school so we can give them a new one :)
