Sports Funding Report 2016-17

Sports Premium Funding.

 

The Government is providing additional funding to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to schools to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. All state-maintained schools, academies, middle schools, special schools and pupil referral units which have primary aged pupils will receive the funding.

 

In the current academic year we have received £9770 in Sports Premium Funding. This has been spent on:

Employing additional coaches, extending competition, additional health enhancing activities, specialist teachers, professional learning for teachers, inclusion, extra curricular clubs, facilities and  equipment. Please see below for more detail including case studies:

 

  • QFirst Sport Coaching sessions who want to provide the very best in specialist sports coaching delivered by passionate, enthusiastic and mature coaches. Girl's football has been a notable success. Staff have reported that this initiative has supported their professional development in PE.
  • New PE/Sport equipment e.g. chess challenge
  • The Cyber Coach Smart product range which supports teachers to incorporate physical activity into the daily routine of their pupils.
  • PE leader given time to improve the recording of PE Assessment and ensure all elements of curriculum are delivered (including swimming).
  • Sport Specialist teacher employed to assist in the running of extra curricular activities including netball and chess.
  • Initiatives to increase the profile of PE at school e.g. new sports board, new trophy cabinet, celebration assemblies and full participation in inter school competition.

 

Impact of Sports Premium Funding on Pupil's Participation and Attainment

 

QFirst Sports

  • Enabled children to access sports that have been otherwise unavailable to them.
  • Improved staff subject knowledge and confidence in delivering high standard PE lessons.
  • QFirst sport coaching has been very valuable, not just as a model for the teachers but for the children to be taught by specialists.

 

New Equipment and teaching resources and planning.

  • Improved staff subject knowledge and confidence in delivering high standard PE lessons.

 

Tracking Children's Attainment

  • PE Leader has delivered to staff on new system to assess and track children's progress & attainment in PE. Staff now all using tracking system confidently leading to more accurate information to inform targets.
  • Identifying the more able accurately has led to the PE Leader being able to identify the children working above the expected standard in PE. This information will be used to implement a Lunch Time Leader initiative in the Summer Term. Keep checking this page for more information on the impact of this.
  • We are also hoping to introduce in the Summer Term targetted interventions for children identified as working below the expected standard in PE (including swimming). Keep checking this page for more information on the impact of this.

Ensuring Sustainability

We are committed to ensuring that all these improvements are sustainable. This will be done through careful planning, regular monitoring of the subject & impact of initiatives, staff meeting feedback and reports to the senior management team.

 

 

 

Sport

 

Sport is a central part of life here at Our Lady of Grace RC Primary School. The school runs clubs in football, netball, chess, rounders.  We also have after school clubs running on a Monday evening and a Friday evening. These clubs are run my specialised coaches from the company QFirst Sports, in a range of areas such as, gymnastics, dance, multi skills and athletics. Over an academic year every year group will also get the chance to be coached by a specialised teacher from QFirst Sports, in their PE lessons.

The school enters competitions organised by the Prestwich and Whitefield Junior Sports Association (PWJSSA).
